Aston Martin’s SUV Concept
Electric SUVs are all the rage and some car companies have resorted to bringing back old name brands that they consider too old to carry emotional attachment in a younger generation. However, car names often start great discussions at parties. From Pintos to Novas to Koleos to “What were they thinking (or not)?”
However, when it comes to Aston Martin, the Lagonda holds a special place in the unobtainium world of collector cars aficionados. Reviving the brand name for a high-end electric SUV is a bold, smart, and darn risky step.
Lagonda has confirmed plans for its first vehicle in the new era – the first in the newly revived brand, which has spun off from Aston Martin. The all-electric Lagonda SUV will be unveiled in 2021 and will be based on the Vision Concept showcased at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show.
Electric SUV Lagonda Genuinely Due For Production
We first met Andy Palmer when he was then spearheading the electric Nissan programs of Cubes and Versas. He is now CEO and President of Aston Martin. He recently said, “In reviving one of the most iconic names in motoring, we have created a unique opportunity — one that allows us to cast aside an inherited 20th-century approach and instead design cars around 21st-century demands and desires. The Lagonda SUV is the first of its kind: a spacious, high-performance 4×4 that successfully reconciles a love of technology, luxury, and style.”
It’s fair to say that Andy brings in decades of experience and a great atmosphere to boot. In fact, Marek Reichman, Aston Martin EVP and chief creative officer, added that “the Lagonda SUV will retain the boldness of the Vision Concept.” Going on: “Lagonda is a luxury brand, but it is also one rooted in technology. It will be like no other SUV to drive, so its looks have to reflect that new reality and to serve as pathfinder to a future in which the most desirable and prestigious automobiles still have a place.”
